Woven fabrics
Woven fabrics are created by interlacing fibers or yarns at right angles (90°angles) to each other in a‘checkered'pattern. This pattern is created by weaving (or interlacing) a set of horizontal fibers (weft fibers) over and under a set of vertical fibers (warp fibers). The properties of woven fabrics depend on the ways in which the fibers (warp and weft) are interwoven.

Process of Face Mask
Material Entry
The first step is the entry of raw materials. The materials are unwound and drawn into the production process in a single flow of material as they are combined together.
Folding Process
Once the machine has combined the raw materials and they are on their way through the machine, the next step is to fold them. The way the machine folds the materials is what makes the fabric pleated. These pleats are in any disposable 3-ply face mask.After the pleats are folded into the mask, the machine uses ultrasonic welding to make a seam on the ends of the mask. This type of welding uses mechanical vibrations which soften or melt the material to make the seam.
Cutting Masks To Size
After the welding process, the masks need to be cut to the correct size. Before this is done, the material is still connected to the spool of raw material. Using the mask-making machine, the masks are cut to the size of an individual mask and then transported to the next station in the machine.
Adding Ear Loops
The next step in the process of constructing masks is to add the ear loops to the edges. With this part of the machine, the ear loop attachments are automatically fed to both sides of the mask where they are ultrasonically welded to the mask.
Stacking Finished Masks
The masks are now complete! The final process in the mask production machine is to stack the finished masks into stacks. The machine is programed with the number of masks in each stack and stacks them to the correct amount. Once the machine stacks the masks, they are manually or automatically packaged and ready for use.
PFE (particulate filtration efficiency)
Measures how well a hospital mask filters sub-micron particles. Per FDA guidance, the particle size is 0.1 microns. Microns aren't visible to the human eye—a grain of table salt is 100 microns.
BFE (bacterial filtration efficiency)
Evaluates the ability of a mask to keep aerosol droplets (caused by talking, coughing and sneezing) away from the wearer's mouth and nose. It also shows the mask's ability to prevent aerosols from the wearer's mouth from reaching the environment. The bacteria used is Staphylococcus aureus, which is attached to liquid droplets with sizes ranging from 0.65-9 microns and above with 3 microns as the mean particle size.
Delta P (pressure differential)
Measures the air flow resistance of the medical mask and serves as an objective measure of breathability. The Delta P is measured in units of mm H2O/cm2; the lower the value, the more breathable the mask feels.
Fluid resistance
Evaluates the resistance of medical face masks to penetration by the impact of a small volume of synthetic blood. The test is designed to determine whether or not the mask would effectively protect a surgeon from blood spatter.
Flame spread
Evaluates whether the hospital mask withstands exposure to a burning flame (within a specific distance) for three seconds, a Class 1 designation. ASTM standards include testing for flame resistance because hospitals contain sources of oxygen, heat and fuel.
How to Wear a Face Mask — Your Guide to the Do's and Don'ts
A face mask is designed to provide a barrier between your respiratory system and the outside world. Therefore, it must cover your mouth and nose, and it must fit snugly but comfortably on the face. Many masks come in different sizes, including children's sizes, and you should pick the one that fits you best. Masks that are too small and masks that are too big with gaps between your face and the mask are less effective.
Have clean hands when you put on your mask. When you return home, wash your hands before removing your mask and take it off from the back, handling it by the ear loops or straps.
